It’s the start of May, and I’m finally feeling more like myself again.
I’ve got more energy. I feel clearer. Lighter. Like I’m emerging from a fog.
But earlier this year, it was a very different story.
I was navigating treatment for a health issue. Letting go of the final threads of a relationship. And work-wise, I felt directionless. Not short on ideas – but too many, with no clear path. I felt disconnected from myself.
It All Started With a Vision Board
I signed up for a vision board workshop.
Now, I’ve always loved vision boards – usually making them on my own or leading them for others. But this time, I chose to be in a group of women I didn’t know. I wasn’t there to teach. I just wanted to be in the room, to see what might surface.
And something did.
When I looked at the images and words I’d chosen, the theme was crystal clear:
Connection.
-
To myself
-
To others
-
To movement, creativity, and joy
-
To water, music, and play
-
To what I loved as a child
-
To meaningful work—especially in group spaces and gatherings
That word – connection – became my North Star.
Five Months Later: What’s Shifted
I didn’t overhaul my life. I didn’t launch something new.
I just started following what lit me up.
-
I picked up my tennis racket again
-
Went wake surfing with friends
-
Added in a mid-week class with Three Sixty Fitness
-
Rejoined a Spanish class and booked a salsa workshop
-
Tried skateboarding (still not sure about that one!)
-
Spent less time online, more time with people who energise me
What shifted wasn’t the plan. It was the energy.
I stopped trying to “figure it out” and started moving from clarity, not pressure.
Emotions as a Compass, Not a Threat
One of the biggest turning points?
Realising that emotions weren’t obstacles to be overcome – they were messages.
-
That flicker of envy when someone takes a solo trip? It’s a nudge toward freedom or adventure.
-
Feeling behind? It may be your cue to grow, not compare.
-
Feeling stuck? It’s not failure – it’s a whisper: “Check in. Something’s ready to change.”
When I connected how I felt with what I’d visualised, things started to align.
Want to Reconnect With Yourself? Start Here.
Reconnection doesn’t require a big breakthrough.
Sometimes it starts with:
-
A walk with no phone
-
A song you loved as a teen
-
A group, a class, or something new that sparks curiosity
-
A quiet journal prompt that opens a door
Whatever it is, start small. And start today.
Reconnection isn’t instant. It asks for patience. And it always benefits from self-compassion.
But trust this: You are not behind. You’re just finding your way back to yourself. Keep following the pull.
