What if your phone held the roadmap to your most intentional year yet?
The media loves a good “New Year, New You” headline—like January is a magic button that hands us a clean slate.
But by midlife, we know the truth: life rarely offers neat resets. And honestly, do we even need one?
What if, instead of starting over, we paused to reflect?
What if we let our experiences of 2024 guide us – showing us what to keep, what to shift, and what to finally release?
A Different Kind of New Year Ritual
This January, I’ve been leaning into something different. A simple idea I heard from Mel Robbins:
Scroll through your camera roll.
That’s it. Just open your phone and scroll through your photos from 2024.
It’s deceptively simple – but don’t underestimate it. You’ll probably smile. Maybe cry. Remember things you forgot. Feel proud of things you brushed past too quickly. And yes, there may be photos that bring up sadness or regret. Let it all rise. It’s part of the story.
Because these images? They’re clues.
Breadcrumbs.
A visual diary of what mattered to you – and what might shape your best year yet.
Try It: A Photo-Based Reflection Ritual
Take ten minutes. Open your camera roll. Let the year unfold.
And then, if it feels right, take it one step further:
Journaling: Unpacking 2024
Inspired by Mel Robbins, here are seven powerful questions to guide your reflection:
- What were the highlights of 2024?
- What were the hardest parts or low points?
- What did you learn about yourself this year?
- What are you going to stop doing in 2025?
- What are you going to start doing?
- What do you want to continue or build on?
- What’s one small thing you could do today to step towards your best year yet?
Your Inner Compass Already Knows
There’s something beautiful about moving into the new year with self-awareness, not pressure.
Less overhaul. More intention.
And if you’re someone who journals, coaches yourself, or simply wants to start the year feeling grounded – you might try this final idea:
A Love Note to Your Future Self
Dear 2025 Me,
You’ve got this. You’ve learned so much and grown even more.
Keep listening to your heart and trusting your intuition.
Make time for the things that fill you with joy.
Surround yourself with people who lift you up.
You are becoming the person you were always meant to be.
Let’s make 2025 your best year yet.
